I have not posted in a while but now that I have my very own wireless lap top, I should be able to keep up with a blog on a semi-regular basis. Right now, I am playing with the computer while I download music into iTunes so I can have my complete and very eclectic music collection on my iPod. The picture of the cats is an experiment -- I need to spend some itme organizing the pictures on the lap top, then I should be able to post pictures that actually go with my text.

Since it is the last day of the year, I have been thinking about goals for 2007. I posted my stitching goals on the Legacy UFO/WIP board and have been thinking about other goals for the year. Looking back on 2006, I have accomplished quite a bit -- I have a new job, I read 60 books (that is physical books -- I didn't keep very good track of the ones that I listened to) and I finished a number of needlework projects. In 2007, I will keep better track.

The last two books that I finished in 2006 were Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway and Michael Cunningham's The Hours. I read Mrs. Dalloway before but did not remember much about it --I may have to read it again. My general impression was that it was not as interesting as The Voyage Out, or The Waves. I enjoyed The Hours more, now I want to watch the movie again.

I injured my finger last week so I am far behind in my stitching but I have been reading quite a bit. I finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, The Voyage Out by Virginia Woolf, Truth and Beauty by Ann Patchett, and Hood by Lawhead. Now I am reading The Murder Room by P.D. James. You are probably thinking, what an eclectic collection of books! But there is some logic to it -- Snow Flower and the Secret Fan was a church book group selection. I missed the book group meeting but read the book. The Voyage Out is an on-line book group selection. Truth and Beauty was lying around the house, Hood looked interesting on the new book shelf at the library and The Murder Room was also lying around the house. I am trying to read one book I own for every one that I read from the library. Most of the books that I own get donated to the Friends of the Library to be sold to other readers. In time, I think that this might decrease the total number of books in the house while raising money for the library.

I liked Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and would highly recommend it. The Voyage Out was interesting but not my favorite Virginia Woolf. Truth and Beauty kept with the theme of female friendships written by women and I enjoyed it. It would be a good book group selection. Hood was OK.

I have been reading stitching blogs for about a year now and have enjoyed feeling like I know stitchers from around the world. I have decided to start my own. This blog will contain updates on my stitching, comments on the books I read, pictures of my pets and observations about my busy life.
